And I thought there would be no aspect of inner light/sound in hinayana buddhism, but in 'Crown of Life' Kirpal Singh says that contemplators in the hinayana school were called "shravaks" or hearers. and James Bean has already made reference to Ajahna Sumedho and his "Sound of Silence" talks -
